Ontario Supporting Expansion at Grandview Children’s Centre

Ontario is helping children and youth with special needs in Durham region get the care they need sooner by supporting the construction of a new facility for Grandview Children's Centre

Tracy MacCharles, MPP for Pickering-Scarborough East, Joe Dickson, MPP for Ajax-Pickering and Granville Anderson, MPP for Durham made the announcement on behalf of Minister of Children and Youth Services, Michael Coteau this morning at Grandview. This support will create more treatment spaces, shorter wait times and a modern facility so that families can access the care they need sooner.

Grandview Children's Centre was designed in 1983 to serve about 400 children per year, but increasing demand -- partly due to Durham region's growing population -- means that the centre now serves over 6,000 children and youth each year. The support announced today will help the treatment centre better meet this growing demand.

Grandview Children's Centre offers a range of services to children and youth with special needs, including occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech-language pathology, social work services, audiology, therapeutic recreation and family resources and support.

Providing important rehabilitation services for children and youth with special needs is part of the government's plan to help all children and youth in Ontario thrive and reach their full potential.

Quick Facts

  • Ontario is investing up to $31 million to help Grandview Children's Centre build new treatment space, so that families can access the care they need sooner.
